Development of new pavement design

Development of a combined method of construction: aeronautical lights and pavements

In the aeronautical lighting construction, we adopted LED lights and developed the base, resulting in the implementation of “High-cost performance aeronautical lights.”

As a result, construction took approximately one year, including basic facilities and runway. A reduction of approximately 20% in project expenses was achieved.

Moreover, we also achieved a life-cycle cost reduction after the second runway opening, as we implemented a "Pavement Management System" (PMS) that enables us to do preventive maintenance. For a more detailed description, refer to the table below.


As of 1st April, 2016, Kansai Airports succeeded the operating right for both Kansai International Airport and Osaka Itami Airport. Please note that the name of the previous operator, New Kansai International Airport Company, Ltd., is described in some materials and articles related to previous operation.
