SDGs Initiatives at Three Kansai Airports Partnership

The number of workers at Kansai International Airport was 17,992 from 344 companies (FY 2024); at Osaka Itami Airport, 7,056 from 132 companies (FY 2024); and at Kobe Airport, 1,221 from 31 companies (FY 2024).
Kansai Airports Group will strengthen cooperation with business operators at our airports and surrounding communities, while remaining flexible in responding to various situations and continuing efforts to secure personnel and develop human resources.

Kansai Airports has initiated a Kansai Airports Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to ensure that the airports are resilient to disasters and other risks. The most important aspect of the plan is the cooperation and partnership with related organizations.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local governments, airlines, railroad and bus companies, police, fire departments, and many other organizations work together, and they gather at the Joint Crisis Management Group (JCMG) to sort out problems in emergency situations.

In the airport business, we are working together to solve major common issues, such as safety, the environment, and improving customer satisfaction, through cross-organizational cooperation in councils and committees.

Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport devises and serves dishes using locally grown Izumisano produce. We also cooperate with neighboring areas including Osaka Prefecture to promote mutual exchanges.

We are rediscovering local specialty products such as "Mizunasu" and "Senshu Onion," which are nationally known brand-name vegetables. Through partnerships with various stakeholders such as producers and schools, we promote the benefits of local vegetables and foster the agricultural and food industries.

In accordance with the Plastic Resource Circulation Law that went into effect on April 1, 2022, Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport is taking measures by replacing guest room amenities with earth-friendly materials to reduce plastic product waste.

For example, we have taken environmental measures by introducing biomass-made amenities in guest rooms, such as use of toothbrushes, razors, hairbrushes, and combs all made from plant materials. We are also working to reduce plastic waste by replacing mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body shampoo in guest rooms (premium economy and economy class) with pump-type refill bottles. The straws used in restaurants and banquets will also be made from biomass materials, and plastic materials will be reduced by 25% by using straws made from bio-PE and sugarcane.

Together with our customers, we will contribute to solving social issues such as global warming and ocean plastic problems by reducing the use of single-use plastics.

Itami Sky Park, located directly across from Osaka Itami Airport, is a park operated by Itami City. Airports are facilities where partnerships with local communities are important. Kansai Airports also cooperate in the operation of the park, so that our airports can be loved by local people and live in harmony with them.

Kansai Airports Group is a private company that operates three airports - Kansai International Airport, Osaka Itami Airport, and Kobe Airport - under a contract to operate public facilities (concession business).
