Osaka Customs of the Ministry of Finance and Kansai Airports exchanged a “Memorandum of Confirmation on Cooperation to Enhance International Cargo Functions with the aim of deepening cooperation to further strengthen international cargo functions at Kansai International Airport (KIX).
Kansai Airports is driving “Cargo Next->,” an international cargo area modernization project, to address challenges such as the aging of facilities and the shortage of warehouse capacity arising from growing demand, and to establish future-ready cargo operations. To further strengthen public-private cooperation aimed at enhancing the international cargo functions at KIX, Osaka Customs and Kansai Airports have exchanged a Memorandum of Confirmation.
Based on this Memorandum of Confirmation, Osaka Customs and Kansai Airports will further strengthen cooperation with relevant stakeholders, including private business operators, related ministries and agencies, and local governments. These efforts are aimed at enhancing KIX’s role as an international logistics hub, strengthening its competitiveness, and contributing to the development of the regional economy.
Key areas of cooperation will include exploring the establishment of an Air Cargo Inspection Center based on the “Customs Vision 2030,” released this month by the Customs and Tariff Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, enhancing the efficiency of international air cargo operations, and strengthening industrial clusters and logistics functions in collaboration with local municipalities.
