Community Activities

We seek to develop a relationship that allows the airports to grow together with the local communities through various activities, including conducting airport tours and visiting lectures, participating in local events, and implementing projects to improve the living environment in neighboring communities.

Working with Communities

Environmental Facility Tour for Elementary School Students

We hold a "Parent-Child Environmental Tour" for upper-grade elementary school students and their parents from the surrounding area to help them learn about Kansai International Airport's environmental initiatives. The tour includes explanations of aircraft takeoff and landing facilities and airport infrastructure, as well as visits to environmentally friendly energy, water, and waste treatment facilities. In addition, the tour also offers visits to perimeter roads and the fire station headquarters, which are normally closed to the public.

Outreach Classes and Tours to Deepen Understanding of Airports and Aircraft

At Kansai International Airport and Kobe Airport, we offer outreach classes at elementary schools and airport tours to provide children with opportunities to deepen their understanding of airports and aircraft through mutual education. Through these programs, we aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and foster the next generation of aviation professionals. We also offer a variety of tours, including back-of-house airport facility tours at the Kansai International Airport Observation Hall "Sky View," as well as the "Exciting Kansai Airport Tour Plan."

A Variety of Unique Events at the Three Airports

Kansai Airports hosts a wide range of events aimed at developing community-based airports that contribute to the growth of local communities and economies. On Sky Day (September 20), events for all age groups are held at each of the three airports in cooperation with airlines and airport staff. One of the most popular events is the "Runway Walk," which offers participants a rare opportunity to tour the runways, an area normally off-limits to the public. Through these events, we strive to help local residents gain a deeper understanding of the aviation industry.

Collecting Around 20% of Osaka Bay's Annual Marine Waste: Efforts to Protect the Richness of the Sea

We are working to keep the waters around Osaka clean and safe in cooperation with the NPO Osaka Marine Beautification and Safety Association, Osaka Prefecture, fishery cooperative associations, and companies. Through cleanup and waste collection efforts in both marine and coastal areas, and in collaboration with fisheries stakeholders, we collect approximately 20% (about 1,300 m3) of the annual marine waste in Osaka Bay. These activities contribute to ecosystem conservation, including measures to address marine plastic waste.

To further advance our efforts to restore and preserve seaweed beds, we are strengthening collaboration with local communities.

Collaboration with Hannan City
As part of the Osaka Bay Sea Forest (Seaweed Bed) Conservation and Restoration Project, we are working with Hannan City to transplant seaweed from KIX (Kansai International Airport). This project is registered as a co-creation challenge under the TEAM EXPO 2025 program of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. We are also a member of the Osaka Bay Blue Carbon Ecosystem Alliance (MOBA).

Collaboration for Creating Blue Carbon in Osaka Bay
To accelerate the conservation, restoration, and creation of blue carbon ecosystems in Osaka Bay, Osaka Prefecture and Hyogo Prefecture have established the Osaka Bay Blue Carbon Ecosystem Alliance (MOBA), a co-creation platform comprising industry, academia, government, and the private sector. Kansai Airports is also a member of this alliance. Together with other stakeholders who share Osaka Bay, we will continue to contribute to the creation of a richer bay environment.
