In 2001, Kansai International Airport was selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as one of the Top 10 Civil Engineering Achievements of the 20th Century. This award recognizes the most outstanding projects worldwide in ten different categories, and Kansai International Airport was selected in the category of "Airport Design and Development." As the world's first marine airport, it was recognized for its innovative construction techniques, environmental considerations, and contribution to the social economy.
