Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that an exterior wall panel from the China Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai has been installed at Kansai International Airport (KIX).
The Expo Legacy Project aims to preserve and pass on the cultures, values, and sustainability messages from many Expo participating countries to future generations by showcasing them at airports, even after the Expo.
The China Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai was themed “Building a Community of Life for Man and Nature — a Future Society of Green Development.” The pavilion offered a wide range of exhibits that reflect Chinese culture, which is rooted in nature, adapts to nature, and lives in harmony with nature through immersive presentation and cutting-edge technologies. One of the pavilion’s highlights was its distinctive exterior design. The exterior wall looked like an unfurled scroll made of ancient bamboo strips and was covered with various words written in Chinese calligraphy. One of them was a quote from The Analects of Confucius, well known in Japan: “Is it not a pleasure to have friends come from afar?” The exterior wall panel bearing this quote was presented to KIX by the China Pavilion and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, as a symbol commemorating the exchange between the two countries through the Expo.
China and the Osaka–Kansai region have long enjoyed close ties in a wide range of fields, including business, culture, and academia. KIX has welcomed many visitors from China over the years and has served as an important gateway for exchange, as the Confucian saying mentioned above suggests. By displaying this symbol of friendship at the airport, born on the international stage of the Expo, we hope that visitors from Japan and abroad will feel the story of exchange fostered through the Expo. At the same time, this display expresses the warm welcome of the entire Osaka–Kansai region to travelers from China.
To mark this installation, a commemorative ceremony was held at KIX, attended by invited guests who have contributed to promoting exchange between the two countries.
Kansai Airports Group will continue to contribute to the promotion of exchange and collaboration with local communities and countries around the world through airport operations.
