Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that Kansai International Airport (KIX) has been named the World’s Best Low-Cost Terminal in the World Airport Awards 2026*, conducted by SKYTRAX, a UK based aviation service research firm. The awards are based on evaluations of more than 550 airports worldwide.
This award recognizes terminals dedicated to low-cost carrier (LCC) operations. Kansai International Airport has received the awards five times, following previous wins in 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2022. Since its opening in October 2012, Terminal 2 has implemented a number of initiatives to enhance passenger comfort—such as Japan’s first walk through duty-free shop at a domestic airport, smart lanes designed to streamline security screening, and the ongoing terminal expansion. We believe these efforts contributed to this year’s recognition.
In addition, the renovation work is currently underway in the domestic area to accommodate future growth in traffic, and the renewed facilities are set to open on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. This upgrade is expected to further enhance convenience and comfort for our passengers.
Kansai Airports Group will continue to create an environment where all airport users can enjoy a comfortable and pleasant experience, providing memorable journeys for everyone.
Note: World Airport Awards results are based on customer satisfaction surveys collected from air travelers across 100 countries and regions, covering more than 550 airports worldwide.
