Kansai Airports operates three airports in Kansai region in Japan. Kansai / KIX: International & Domestic, Itami / ITM: Domestic, Kobe / UKB: International & Domestic. Airport Facilities

Runway 06L/24R: 4,000m, Terminal 2 (LCC terminal), Car Parking, International Cargo Area, Train station and Car Parking, Terminal 1 (FSC & LCC), Runway 06R/24L: 3,500m. Airport on artificial islands 5km away from the cities →No curfew. Parallel long runways (3,500m & 4,000m) →No RWY closure.

Facilities For A380 Operation

Four parking stands are fitted for A380. Out of four, two stands are equipped with an upper deck boarding bridge and passengers can directly access the upper deck. Passenger boarding lift is also available.

T1 Renovation Project

Timeline

Phase 1 - October 26, 2022, New domestic area opened. Phase 2 - December 5, 2023, New international departure central area opened. Phase 3 - March 27, 2025, New international security checkpoint and new international lounge to be opened => Grand opening (Main functions completed). Phase 4 - Summer 2026, International departure commercial area to be expanded toward north and south.

Allocate unused domestic capacity to international: +30% international capacity, +6 international PBB stands (34 -> 40). Centralized international functions (security check, emigration, immigration): +30% security check throughput. Unique international area. In parallel, runway capacity increased from 45 to 60 movements per hour, thanks to airspace new routes.

Consolidate and expand international security checkpoint on 4F: More and longer smart lane (Faster, more comfortable and smoother security inspection). Processing capacity: current 4,500 → 6,000 people per hour (At the time of Grand Opening). Before: Space ~3,500m², Smart lane number 16, Smart lane length 15m. 3 September: Space ~3,600m², Smart lane number 16, Smart lane length 20m. Relocated international arrival immigration area to 3F to provide an open atmosphere for immigration procedures.Integrated operations through connecting corridors.Redesigned area layout for smoother immigration process.

International lounge to be renovated and consolidated on 3F. Shared lounge for passengers: eligible to access the lounge and fly with airlines operating at T1. Provide more spacious environment by improving space efficiency. Environmentally Friendly Airport

Environmentally Friendly Airport. Initiatives: SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) from waste cooking oil at three airports, with 51% of restaurants cooperating and surrounding municipalities participating. Operations started in April 2025 as the first large-scale production in Japan. Labeled Facilities: Japan's First Commercial Hydrogen Refueling Station, Hydrogen Fuel Cell-Powered Bus, Wind Power Generation, KIX Mega Solar, Greening Airport Islands, Seaweed Bed, Fuel Cell-Powered Forklift. Logo: airport carbon accredited.

Runway: Movement per day: 1,416; Movements per hour: 60 (Note: There is an exception for the hours of 12:00-12:59 and 20:00-20:59, during which the capacity is 40 movements); Movements per consecutive 3 hours: None beyond the hourly limit. Passenger Terminals: Terminal 1 - Passenger Capacity: 12 million international passengers per year and 13 million domestic passengers per year; Aircraft Stands: 35 international, 5 domestic, 5 swing, 11 remote, and 8 maintenance stands; Fixed Rotation Aircraft: 4; Check-in Counters: The number of international check-in counters is 224 (this became effective this month, August 2025), The number for domestic counters is flexible. Terminal 2 - Passenger Capacity: 1.2 million international passengers per year and 2.7 million domestic passengers per year; Aircraft Stands: 6 international, 8 domestic, and 6 swing stands; Check-in Counters: 8 international counters and 8 domestic counters. Cargo Facilities: International Cargo - Capacity: 900,000 tonnes/year at the airport's opening, increasing to 1,400,000 tonnes/year at completion; Site Area: 26.4 hectares; Spots: 25.
